When Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat closed their doors this week, many saw it as an opportunity to reflect… not to mention Adam Levine.
Instead, the singer and songwriter took the opportunity to get an impressive neck tattoo, featuring a butterfly caught in a spider’s web, just above his pre-existing collarbone tattoo that reads “Family.” .
“A wise man once said… when Instagram goes down… get your throat tattooed…” his name was @nathan_kostechko, ”Levine captioned on Instagram alongside a photo featuring this tattoo.
It is not known whether Kostechko, an artist based in Los Angeles, designed the tattoo or not. But one thing is for sure: fans can’t get enough of it.
“Love!” wrote Vanessa Bryant, widow of the late Kobe Bryant.
“Sounds so cool!” one fan wrote, with another adding: “Beautiful darling.”
Other commentators saw a double meaning in the work. “This is exactly what is happening in the world,” wrote one of them. “The Web being the government and the Butterfly being us.”
“Don’t tattoo your face,” added a worried fan, with another sounding, “Hahahaha next time Instagram goes down, I’ll tattoo too.”
Of course, Levine is known to spare no expense and time when it comes to transforming his body into a work of art. In August, it was reported that the singer had spent two days getting a tattoo on his leg.
In a video on Instagram, he shared footage from the session with artist Bill Canales, who he said took 13 hours in total to create.
And last week, the singer posted a black-and-white photo of himself hanging from a doorframe and captioning it “inappropriate.” In the photo, he wears only short, tight briefs as he shows off his muscles and various tattoos.
Obviously, Levine isn’t going away from the tattoo needle anytime soon.
