The down payment difference

Man, Joe is excited with the Bucs heading into their bye week without a limp, instead throwing their fists up after this morning’s powerful performance against a good team.
There are plenty of Bucs heroes since the win over the Seahawks, but the story was on third down. Seattle was 1 for 9 on third conversions while the Bucs were a stunning 10 of 15.
A big reason was the Bucs were staying out of 3rd for too long, and Tom Brady was only hit once all day. Once! And he was not fired.
Frankly, the Bucs made it look easy when they weren’t executing a fix play and when Brady wasn’t serving his second pick of the season — and it was a poor pick over middle.
Joe had some strong arguments in that game at Big Storm Brewery in Clearwater about how good the Bucs pass blocking was. Opinions differ. But the numbers tell most of the story, especially today.
The third defense was aggressive and precise. The return of Antoine Winfield certainly made the difference and the stifling running defense set up the silver hit.
Thriving on third down without the Bucs sacking king Shaq Barrett is a fantastic sign for Tampa Bay’s playoff hopefuls.
