Murder Capital’s Debut “Ethel”

Irish band The Murder Capital have shared “Ethel”, a track from their upcoming album Gigi’s recovery. The song is a re-examination of past desires and priorities, whether they are worth carrying or should be left behind. “I always wanted it to be like this for us, for our first child to call her Ethel,” eventually becoming a hopeful and cathartic directive, the way forward is now clear. The band share of the new single: “The song ‘Ethel’ is an image of a crossroads, truly, asking you what you want out of life. Whether you want to continue down the path of chaos or change your course. It shows you what’s possible when you make the decisions that bring some kind of lulled warmth into your future. Ethel’s idea is that you can have what you really want if you put aside those short-lived fixes that don’t never bring you true happiness.

The Murder Capital also returned live this year performing at Primavera Sound, VYV Festival and Solidays, as well as opening for Pearl Jam at British Summer Time. The performances follow their largely sold-out EU/UK tours in 2020, which saw them sell out their biggest show yet at London’s Electric Ballroom.

The Jean Congleton produced Gigi’s Recovery, which is slated for release January 20 via Human Season Records. The group is also sharing Maxim Kelly’s video for “Ethel” today. Kelly shares about making the video, “I originally thought Ethel should be the main character and do the dance at the end, and I always had that image from this French movie called My American Uncle. Where it’s like a little girl standing at a table I originally had this image in my head for a rap video but it didn’t really make sense for the song I wanted it to feel more surreal so as I started to find more images it kind of turned out that maybe the maid was the most interesting character.
