Alex Emeshev (Vivid Money): The financial startup scene is growing fast right now. Bucharest offers a suitable business environment for technological development

The financial startup scene is growing rapidly at the moment in Europe, not only in terms of funds raised and the old, very established financial market and its institutions provide a stable base for innovative startups that are shaking up the industry, according to Alex Emeshev, Vivid Money, the Berlin financial platform recently launched in Romania. In addition, European cities such as London, Paris and Berlin and in the East such as Tallinn, such as Bucharest and Warsaw, provide a business environment conducive to innovation and technological development.

Over the past two years, the fintech industry has generated great interest in the Romanian entrepreneurial scene, and recent studies show that the Romanian fintech market has grown exponentially in 2021.

Quicksilver aims in 2022 to reach 30,000 active customers in Romania. As the investment market is dynamic, the company plans to offer local clients even more investment opportunities in the future in terms of more actions to achieve business goals. European users start with around €200 per investment pocket when it comes to investing – even though the platform allows investments as low as €0.01. Most users make their first experiences with investments in this range and then invest an additional 600-900 euros.

“We want to empower everyone to take back control of their financial life using our tools, and many of our users are tech-savvy. They are more urban and average age 33. We tend to use people who have a stable job. It is too early to look at the statistics for the Romanian market, but still, no doubt it will go in the same direction. For the rest of Europe, most people start with around 200 euros when it comes to investing – even though we allow investments for as little as 0.01 euros. Most users experiment with investments in this range for the first time and then invest an additional 600 to 900 euros,” explains Alex Emeshev, co-founder of Vivid Money.

According to Alex Emeshev, Romanian users are very open to innovations and ready to switch to new technologies if they bring them more value. In addition, the share of young people is also high and comparable, as they are generally more open to new technologies, especially in the fintech sector. Moreover, there is currently a lot of momentum in the market. “Awareness of the consumer investment market is higher than ever. This is also the case in Romania. However, as we see in all European markets, many consumers still perceive investments as complicated and risky. This is one of the main reasons we invest heavily in educating our clients through our investment stream with articles from our editorial team and our Vivid Classes online workshops,” added Alex Emeshev.

Vivid entered Romania in November last year. The Romania launch introduced Vivid’s investment functionality, which includes commission-free split investments in US and European stocks and assets in fractional precious metals like gold and silver.

According to Vivid Money, the financial startup scene is growing in Europe, and not just in terms of funds raised. The old, highly established financial market and its institutions provide a stable base for innovative startups that are shaking up the industry. In addition, European cities such as London, Paris and Berlin and in the East such as Tallinn, such as Bucharest and Warsaw, provide a business environment conducive to innovation and technological development.

Specifically for Romania, people are generally open to innovations, ready to move on to new technologies if it brings them more value. The share of the young population is also relatively high, which is a target audience for the majority of fintechs that we are. The German company has had major success with global companies in the local market (like Revolut or Uber) and companies like UIPath coming from Romania.

Why Vivid Money chose Romania over countries like Hungary and Poland

“When we looked at the countries for our expansion in Eastern Europe, Romania caught our attention for several reasons. First of all, it belongs to non-European key markets. Moreover, Romania is a country with great potential in terms of investments, mainly due to the Romanians’ openness to new and innovative products. Last but not least, the high proportion of English speakers was a decisive factor”. Concludes Alex Emeshev.

As the investment market is dynamic, Vivid plans to provide local clients with even more investment opportunities. The company is looking forward to introducing several new features to make investing for our Romanian customers even easier, more comfortable and faster.
